I really love the Guardian's take on Cardinal Law. If only it were true that he were under siege in his house! Someone here in the States wrote to the Guardian and begged them to print a US edition for distribution here. I doubt it will ever happen, but I could just see the wigs flipping if it were widely available here. They so often speak the truths that are not allowed to be uttered here.

Meanwhile, I recently tried to wrest a response from a friend who lives less than a mile away but hasn't been seen in weeks except by accident or on tv (you know who you are, and so do a number of other readers.) Good line from that: "Everyone at [an event the other night] was asking me what was up with you, so I had to speculate wildly." Now if she ever reads it, hopefully that will be effective. Clever me, I'll know if she does read it because I sent it as an online card that will tell me when (if!) she picks it up. It won't prevent those cryptic one-line responses she is wont to send, though. Can't win sometimes.

When I'm not getting pissed off at the local media, I have a strange hobby: I like Match Game reruns on the Game Show Network. My other half indulges me and often joins in the fun. Tonight she absently did a web search while we were watching and found out there are a bunch of Match Game websites. We had a lot of fun with those, but the absolute best find was this one. Click on the link at the top of the page to hear the whole thing--it's hilarious!

I hate the Providence Journal. What is it this time? They ran multiple articles in today's paper about a business forum at which all six candidates for governor spoke and answered questions. But in two of those articles, they featured Republican candidates' positions on an issue, but not the Democrats'. If it were in just one article, I could chalk it up to their usual incompetence. But given that it happened in two articles on two issues, it's clearly their Republican bias showing. I personally would like to know the Dems' take on the inventory tax and on separation of powers, but if I were to rely on the ProJo for my news, I could only guess what they might be. Luckily the forum will be broadcast on one of the local television stations, so I can see for myself. It's a huge disservice to the voters, though. My understanding has been that Sheldon (yes, this is Rhode Island, where we refer to our politicians by first name either out of familiarity or contempt) has hedged on separation of powers just like on the port, but the ProJo can't be bothered to tell us that. Screw them.

And meanwhile, their advertising partnership with Channel 10 ("headlines tonight--the complete story tomorrow") has caused Channel 10 not to report on a major story, namely the House vote on the gambling study commission. Instead the ProJo commercial just hyped their own coverage. This is irresponsible on Channel 10's part. But no one will talk about this issue, unless maybe I can put a bug in Phillipe and Jorge's ear. But never mind reporting on serious political issues: Channel 10 did have time to feature a story about Patrick Kennedy doing drag. At least they didn't make any homophobic comments.

Looks like Brazil was not amused by the Simpsons. Their behavior reminds me of Cianci's reaction to the Sopranos. Stupid, but hilarious in its own way.
